2016 Quilt Show

Welcome to ‘Mining For Treasures’

Welcome to our 7th Biennial Mining for Treasures Quilt Show. We think you will love what you see. One of the unique things about the Silver Threads Quilt Guild is that not only do several of our members live in this area permanently, but many members reside in other states. This part of Colorado is a wonderful place to spend the summer and fall, and our members return year after year. We are pretty sure we are the only quilt show in America that is held in an underground mine! It couldn’t happen without the way the entire community works to make this such an outstanding show. Enjoy the show as much as we enjoy putting it on! A wonderful new addition to our show is the display of vintage quilts. Be sure and look for them at the end of the large tunnel.

Raffle Quilt

Our beautiful raffle quilt, “Aspen Leaves,” was designed by guild members Kathy Jennings, Vi Koch and Diane Singer. Vi created the centerpiece from a photograph taken at the overlook at Brown’s Lake between Creede and Lake City. Kathy did the piecing (and it was not paper pieced), and Diane magnificently quilted it. All of the revenue from ticket sales allows us to fund many community projects, which include quilts for Veterans, new Habitat for Humanity homes, and Ronald McDonald House, to name a few. We thank you for your support.

Viewer’s Choice Awards

Visitors are encouraged to vote for their favorite quilt in each of the 1 categories. The Viewer’s Choice winning quilts will be sporting their ribbons on Sunday. Visitors on Friday and Saturday may attend FREE on Sunday with their ticket from either previous day.

Our Judge

Barbara Broshous has been a Certified Judge for the past ten years and has judged many quilt shows in the United States and in several other countries. She lives in Monument, Colorado, and we are delighted ot have her with us for our 2016 show.

Participating members of Silver Threads Quilt Guild had the option of having their quilts judged by Barbara Broshous. (If the entry number of the quilt has a “J” following the number, the entry was judged.) The award ribbons were awarded before the quilt show opened on Friday morning, and are separate from the Viewer’s Choice ribbons which will be awarded Saturday evening.

Our Appraiser

Donna Skvarla is an American Quilter’s Society Certified Appraiser and will be onsite throughout the show. A $40 fee will be charged for each written appraisal. Verbal consultations are free of charge. Check at the front desk for additional information.
